This free day-long virtual SANE bootcamp is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Health  Rape and Sexual Assault Prevention Program led by District of Columbia Forensic Nurse Examiners. These FNEs are certified in both Maryland and the District of Columbia and have years of experience providing exams in both jurisdictions

The Maryland Department of Health Rape and Sexual Assault Prevention Program is sponsoring
this free, day-long virtual training by District of Columbia Forensic Nurse Examiners that will cover
the basics of conducting a forensic exam for survivors of sexual assault. The training will be held
via Zoom on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Six (6) Continuing Nurse
Education (CNE) Contact Hours will be offered upon completion of the training. This training is
open to certified Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs) and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs).
Space is limited to 30 participants.

9:30 - 9:45 BREAK
9:45 - 10:45 Strangulation
10:45 - 12:00 Photography
12:00 - 12:45 LUNCH
12:45 - 2:00 Head-to-Toe Exam
2:00 - 2:15 BREAK
2:15 - 3:30 Anogenital Exam
3:30 - 4:00 Wrap-up and Evaluations


Topic Descriptions
• SANE Trivia: Review questions including general SANE terminology and general SANE concepts,
with emphasis on sexually transmitted infection and pregnancy medication and teaching.
• Head-to-Toe Exam: Review of exam concepts and anatomy, followed by body injury identity
activity.
• Anogenital Exam: A forensic training assistant will review and demonstrate evidence-based
methods of performing a genital exam, including trauma-informed language, followed by a
brief anatomy review and a genital injury identity activity.
