Understanding Deaf Culture to Effectively Serve Deaf Survivors in Mainstream Victim Services

This training, facilitated by Roberta Eaton and Abigael Mercurio of Deaf DAWN, will provide attendees with an overview of important aspects of Deaf Culture and a deeper understanding of power-based violence in the Deaf Community. DAWN hopes that by the end of this training, attendees will have a better understanding of and confidence in knowing how to serve Deaf survivors in their agency. Additional resources will be made available.

DAWN is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive and transformative justice-based non-profit agency located in Washington DC. They provide direct services for Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf-Disabled, Hard of Hearing, and Listened-Deaf Survivors and educate the community to understand and address power-based violence. DAWN’s mission is to promote healthy relationships and reduce abuse in the Deaf community
