MCASA E-Lert: Calls Needed - Urge Senators To Pass The Updated HEROES Act

Oct 06th, 2020

Urge Senator Cardin and Senator Van Hollen to help lead the way and pass the HEROES Act

On October 1st, the House passed a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief measure. The “Updated HEROES Act” addresses the needs of the nation that have developed since the last bill was passed in May.

We know survivors of sexual assault need help NOW. It cannot wait. The updated HEROES Act provides significant funding which will help coalitions and rape crisis centers serve survivors who are in need of both physical and mental health supports.

We urge you to take action now by reaching out to each of your Senators to make your voices heard. Senator Cardin and Senator Van Hollen have helped lead the way in ending violence against women.  Please contact them and ask thank them for their past support and ask them to support the updated HEROES Act, which provides the following for sexual assault survivors:

  • $100 million for the Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP);
  • Language regarding the VOCA deposits fix and match waiver;
  • $50 million for tribes;
  • $25 million to enhance culturally specific services for victims of domestic violence; and
  • $25 million for outreach and services to underserved populations.

Contact our US Senators today to ask them to pass the updated HEROES Act.
