MCASA in the News: Molly Shattuck sentencing: Is 48 weekends for rape too light a sentence?

Aug 24th, 2015

By Randall Chase Associated Press The Christian Science Monitor reported on Molly Shattuck's sentencing. Shattuck, a former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader, plead guilty to raping a 15-year-old boy. She received the maximum sentence of 15 years, but the judge suspended all but 48 weekends of her prison time. She will spend every other weekend at a secure probation center for a total of 48 weekends. MCASA's Executive Director Lisae Jordan, Esq., was quoted in the article.
"Lisae C. Jordan, executive director of the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, called [Shattuck's sentence] 'totally inappropriate.' 'It's certainly a significant accommodation to a defendant to allow a sentence to be served on weekends, much less every other weekend,' she told The Baltimore Sun."
