April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month #SAAM! This year's theme for SAAM is 'Engaging New Voices'
It is crucial to engage new voices from broader audiences to speak up against sexual violence and change the culture. This year, the
National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) announced the theme of 'Engaging New Voices' in order to reach new audiences, such as members of Greek life on campus, parents, faith leaders, and athletic coaches, to be engaged in these conversations about preventing sexual violence.
Wondering how you can get involved with #SAAM? Here are some ways you can make a difference this April:
1. Call your legislators and urge them to support legislation that helps survivors, such as the
Rape Survivor Family Protection Act.
2. Support education about sexual assault prevention in schools to protect our youth and put an end to
archaic, victim-blaming thinking.
3. Support MCASA's efforts to end sexual violence in Maryland by
donating here. You can also join us for dinner
every Monday in April at Not Your Average Joe’s in Silver Spring. Download the flyer here and bring it in with you on
April 3, 10, 17, and 24, and Not Your Average Joe’s will donate 15% of your check to MCASA.
MCASA will be participating in several SAAM events throughout the month of April. Be sure to follow MCASA on
social media this month as we continue to advocate on behalf of survivors in Maryland!
