SB932 would require all social media users to publicly reveal their location.
Minors will not have to share their location, which would only make it easier for predators to discern which profiles belong to children.
Keeping our laws up to date with current technology is important, but we cannot do so by endangering the vulnerable.
Imagine you're a woman experiencing abuse in Florida. You flee to your mom's house in Maryland to escape the violence. Under this bill, if you use social media, your profiles will all show that you're no longer in Florida and are now in Maryland. The abuser will be able to figure out that you’re at your mom’s house.
We understand this isn't the intent of this legislation, but unfortunately don't see a way to remedy these concerns.
Please ask the Economic Matters Committee
to oppose SB932 because laws should not help abusers!
