Senate Bill 360 provides survivors of deep fake revenge porn with the ability to seek civil remedies for nonconsensual distribution of intimate deep fake images, including damages, injunctive relief, and attorneys fees. It would also add deep fakes to the current revenge porn statute, providing access to criminal charges.
Image abuse causes real harm. AI and more sophisticated computer technology has brought about the existence of 'deep fakes,' which are images or recordings that are altered or created to misrepresent someone. Unfortunately, this technology is making it easier for people to create fake naked photos or videos of someone and use that artificial pornography in order to cause someone distress or embarrassment, often referred to as “revenge porn.” This technology is easy to find and easy to use, making it simple for abusers to access and exploit their victims. These images can cause significant emotional, reputational, and financial harm.
Please ask the Judicial Proceedings Committee to support SB360 to help our laws catch up to technology and give justice to survivors of tech abuse!
