Today we join together for a National Day of Action to urge the Senate to pass the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFSA) as soon as possible!
The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) uses non-taxpayer dollars from the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to support services to more than six million victims of crime each year, through nearly 6,500 direct service organizations, including rape crisis centers, child advocacy centers, and domestic violence shelters. Deposits into the CVF have declined considerably in recent years. Maryland is facing serious budget cuts next year and we need federal VOCA support. Without action to stabilize the fund, programs across the country will continue to face cuts, putting critical, lifesaving services for victims of crime at risk.
Earlier this year, the House passed H.R. 909, the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act, which would help address this problem by directing excess funds collected through the False Claims Act into the CVF to help stabilize the fund.
With limited legislative days left this year, the window for Senate action is quickly closing.
