Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault Urges Attorney General to Appeal DNA DecisionProsecution of “Cold Case” Sexual Assaults in Jeopardy
The Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MCASA), its Sexual Assault Legal Institute (SALI), and the state’s 17 rape crisis and recovery centers are urging the Attorney General to appeal the Maryland Court of Appeals decision in Alonzo Jay King, Jr. v. State of Maryland. This decision will reduce prosecutions of sexual assault in “cold cases” by preventing law enforcement from swabbing the cheeks of defendants arrested for crimes of violence or burglary.
