The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee is still discussing legislation rescinding marriage as a defense to sex crimes.
One MCASA client had a C-section and was suffering from intimate injuries. She told the baby’s father she needed time to recover. He ignored her wishes and grabbed her vagina, saying he "waited long enough” during her pregnancy.
In Maryland, if the couple is NOT married, he committed a sex offense.
But, If the couple IS married, it is NOT a sex offense. Marriage is a defense.
Some senators on the Judicial Proceedings Committee want to keep it that way.
MCASA believes:
Married women should be able to say 'no,' too.
Contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and ask them to vote favorably on SB230 with no amendments.
