Statement from Executive Director re: Sexual Violence in Disasters

Aug 26th, 2011

With Hurricane Irene approaching, MCASA remains ever mindful that people are more vulnerable to sexual victimization after a disaster. Still fresh in our minds are the vast numbers of sexual violence incidents after Hurricane Katrina. We wanted to express our concern in this regard and to help responders in the state of Maryland understand this heightened risk so that they make take appropriate steps to safeguard citizens. Please take a moment to review the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s website specifically addressing sexual violence in disasters: http://bit.ly/q5F7p7 Stay safe and well.
