MCASA’s Comprehensive 32-hour Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Training - Kent County

This four-day training is designed for advocates who work directly with survivors of sexual assault in any capacity. The training covers both introductory and advanced topics to provide a foundation for best practices for advocates in the field of sexual assault services. There is no cost; however, member rape crisis centers and staff receive priority registration. 

Topics covered at this training will include:

  • Neurobiology of Trauma
  • Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB)
  • Roles of Law Enforcement, Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs), Prosecutors, and Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs)
  • Crisis Intervention (In-Person and Hotline)
  • Professional Ethics & Boundaries
  • Confidentiality & Advocate Testimony
  • Safety Planning, Risk Assessment, & Cyberstalking
  • Criminal & Civil Legal Options
  • Self-Care & Vicarious Trauma
  • Differences, Allyship, & Advocacy
  • Men & Boys
  • The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) for Advocates
  • Juvenile Offenders & Implications for Advocates
  • Human Trafficking
  • Campus Sexual Assault & the Implications for Advocates
  • LGBTQ Survivors
  • Sexual Violence in Rural Communities
