Maryland Supreme Court hears challenges to Child Victims Act

Sep 30th, 2024

Earlier this month the Supreme Court of Maryland heard arguments on three challenges to the Maryland Child Victims Act.

The law, which took effect in October 2023, allows survivors of child sexual abuse to sue state and private institutions that failed to protect them. MCASA, other advocates, and survivors of abuse supported the bill, and in the last year, numerous survivors have filed lawsuits against religious organizations, private schools, and state and local governmental institutions.

MCASA honors the bravery of the survivors in these cases, and the many who suffered needlessly at the hands of those who were meant to protect them. All survivors deserve to be heard and believed.

The Maryland Attorney General's Office continues to investigate child sexual abuse associated with schools or places of worship. If you experienced this type of abuse and wish to have your case investigated, reach out to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General: 410-576-6312 or [email protected].
