MCASA’s Summer Prevention Lunch & Learn Series - Session #3: Supporting Parents and Educators in a Digital World: Practical Strategies to Prevent Youth Online Sexual Exploitation

Join us for the final session of MCASA's Sexual Violence Summer Prevention Lunch & Learn Series - Session #3: Supporting Parents and Educators in a Digital World: Practical Strategies to Prevent Youth Online Sexual Exploitation!

About the Training

Technology is woven into nearly every aspect of young people’s lives, offering opportunities for connection, learning, creativity, and exploration while also introducing evolving risks, including sexual exploitation. Educators are often an important resource for caregivers who have questions or concerns about their child’s online experiences, particularly as technology, platforms, and digital norms continue to change.

This training equips educators with practical strategies for talking with caregivers about digital safety in ways that are informative, approachable, and responsive to the realities of youth’s experiences online. Participants will explore current digital behaviors, risks, and protective factors; examine harm-reduction approaches that encourage communication rather than relying on fear or restriction alone; and identify ways to help caregivers have proactive, ongoing conversations with their children. Through practical examples and discussion, educators will build confidence in responding to caregiver concerns, sharing guidance and resources, and helping families navigate digital safety while supporting connection, trust, and help-seeking.

Training Learning Objectives:

  • Describe current digital behaviors; risks including deepfakes, sextortion, online grooming, and non-consensual intimate imagery; and protective factors relevant to children and adolescents.
  • Explain harm-reduction approaches to youth digital safety.
  • Respond to common parent and caregiver questions and concerns about youth’s online experiences.
  • Share digital safety guidance and resources with parents and caregivers in accessible, nonjudgmental ways.
