Join us for MCASA’s Virtual Campus Training Session #2: Human Sex Trafficking on College Campuses: Recognizing Vulnerabilities, Responding to Exploitation, and Supporting Students!
Human trafficking can often feel removed from college and university settings, but exploitation does not always happen in the ways or places we might expect. Online spaces, social media, employment opportunities, relationships, financial pressures, and housing instability can all create circumstances where college students may encounter exploitation, sometimes without recognizing it as trafficking.
This training will help participants better understand how sex and labor trafficking can show up in the lives of college students. Participants will challenge common misconceptions about trafficking, explore circumstances that may increase vulnerability to exploitation, and discuss potential indicators that a student may need support.
The training will also explore the intersections between human trafficking, sexual violence, and other forms of victimization, as well as how existing campus systems, including Title IX, sexual violence prevention and response, and student support services, can play a role in recognizing and responding to trafficking. Participants will leave with practical strategies for strengthening prevention and response efforts and connecting students with appropriate support and resources.
MCASA’s Virtual Campus Training Series is a webinar series hosted every year from September to April. These training sessions are tailored to college and university staff, as well as community advocates and other service providers, who do sexual assault prevention and response work with college and university students. Facilitated by a combination of MCASA staff and national experts, these workshops explore important and trending topics impacting all student sexual assault survivors. You can find past Virtual Campus Training sessions on MCASA's website and YouTube channel.
