New Training Resource for Educators: Levitas Initiative Teacher Talk

Nov 26th, 2024

The Erin Levitas Foundation (ELF) works to prevent sexual violence before it happens by making early education accessible and not so scary. They work with communities and partners to create and fund programming for parents, caregivers, adults that work with young people and kids. Programs and resources support communities so fewer children grow up causing and receiving harm. They focus on the areas of communication, conversations, social emotional learning and body safety.

The Erin Levitas Initiative for Sexual Violence Prevention at University of Maryland Carey School of Law (Initiative), with partners in the School of Social Work, is funded by ELF. The Initiative and ELF embrace a comprehensive public health approach to sexual harm prevention. The Initiative works with law and social work students and trained professionals to deliver sexual violence prevention programming that draws upon restorative values and restorative practices. The Initiative engages pre-teens and teens, and youth-serving adults in their community to prevent and respond to sexual harm between youth, and to evaluate the effectiveness of its programs.

ELF and the Initiative have also collaborated closely to produce Teacher Talk to educate youth-serving adults and develop skills to prevent and respond to sexual harm among the youth they engage.

Teacher Talk

Teacher Talk is an online training platform where you can learn to identify and respond to sexual harassment.  This groundbreaking training is a great opportunity if you are  an adult who works or volunteers with kids and teens ages 10-18. You can take the course at your own pace, at a time that works for you and your lifestyle. Watch a short video explaining the course here!

It’s about 3 hours long and is now available for you, team members, and any volunteers or staff who work with young people. Learn how to respond in healthy ways to sensitive moments and prevent continued and elevated harm.  You'll be able to download an editable PDF workbook that you can print or save, along with a certificate of completion.

ELF has a limited number of spaces that we would like to make available for you and your team. This opportunity is part of our voluntary program evaluation or “pilot” that is exploring the usefulness and effectiveness of the Teacher Talk program. Pilot participants are eligible to win one of five $100 Amazon gift cards.

Anyone interested in participating just needs to complete this quick 4-question eligibility form to get started!  Participants will have free course access for 6 weeks from when they first create a Teacher Talk username and password to complete the evaluation activities.

Please feel free to contact the evaluation lead Dr. Laurie Graham ([email protected]) with any questions you might have.
