I hope you all have had some time for rest and relaxation this summer. With a busy fall around the corner, MCASA remains dedicated to our efforts to protect survivor rights and advocate for resources for survivor services and prevention efforts. As changes are continuing at the federal level and Congress embarks on the federal appropriations process for fiscal year 2026, we are continuing to advocate for funding that is crucial to ending sexual violence in Maryland and beyond this fall.
In September, MCASA will host our semi-annual Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Fundamentals Training Series. This virtual training series covers foundational topics and best practices for advocates in the field of sexual assault services. If you are interested in learning more about advocacy work, you can register for this series on our website. We are also hosting a new session for MCASA’s Expert Training Series: Human Trafficking: Overlooked Populations on September 9th via Zoom. During this virtual training, participants will learn how to better serve male survivors of sex trafficking, with a focus on using alternative approaches to therapy.
In this edition of Frontline, we cover ways to prevent sexual abuse in the foster care system in our Prevention Corner. Our College Consortium article explores the importance of community gardening in creating safe environments and connected communities on college campuses. We also address the impacts of sexual violence on women facing homelessness. In our Survivor Safety column, we explore how ‘manosphere’ online communities can feed into a negative culture that promotes sexual violence. Finally, MCASA is glad to highlight the work of the Southern Maryland Center for Family Advocacy serving St. Mary’s County in our Program Spotlight.
We need your support to continue to fight to end sexual violence. You can make a donation and help us serve Maryland survivors. You can also become a member to support survivors in Maryland.
Stay strong,
Lisae
